Dentoalveolar Surgery

What is Dentoalveolar Surgery?

In other words, dentoalveolar surgery encompasses those surgical procedures that involves a variable range of problems with teeth, gum, jawbone and other bony or soft tissues of the oral cavity. It may also require treatment by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Therefore this form of treatment is known as “dentoalveolar surgery”.  Alveolar is the bone that surrounds and supports the teeth.  Besides, dentoalveolar surgery involves surgical procedures carried out under local anaesthesia.

One of the common surgical procedures performed are removal of impacted wisdom teeth (3rd Molars). Also other minor oral procedures includes surgical exposure of impacted teeth to aid in orthodontic tooth movement, bony ridge correction for denture construction, surgical resection of infected root tip , surgical removal of pathologies associated with teeth and surrounding structures , incision and drainage of oro-facial infections.

The team gives special attention to sterilisation of instruments which are under strict aseptic conditions during Minor Oral Surgeries. Besides, the patient undergoing these procedures are appropriately counseled prior to the dentoalveolar surgery. Patient generally steps out of the clinic the same day as these are OPD procedures with instructions and post-op medications for a week.
